Glass can be fragile, but more fragile still is the future of the UK's ancient glassmaking traditions. As colleges close their glass courses, it's becoming harder for would-be glass designers and craftspeople to learn the skills of this alchemical art. The Contemporary Glass Society, which works to keep UK glassmaking alive, is going all out this summer to put glass on the map - a nationwide festival of exhibitions, workshops and happenings that will capture the Olympic spirit and bring the magic of glass to more people than ever before. Job Title: Project Manager - this is a two year contracted part time post, to assist CGS deliver two projects Glass Games 2012 and Glass Skills 2013. A 5/8 post in 2012 and ½ post in 2013, 20K pro rata. Job Title: Marketing co-ordinator - this is a one year contracted part time post £5,000, to assist CGS to market our events and especially Glass Games 2012 and Glass Skills 2013. Glass Games and Glass Skills is a two year audience development project that will harness the energy and audiences generated by the Olympics & Paralympics in 2012. It will build audiences for contemporary glass; raise awareness of the value and future of glass-making skills in the UK; help to create a confident and engaged glass community and increase membership of the CGS, enabling us to move forward as a self-sustaining organisation. It comprises a national promotional campaign over two years, including a major CGS exhibition and a celebratory event in 2012, plus a conference and further exhibition in 2013.
