Online artist's residency
WHO: a disabled or deaf artist. Disabled people are people who have impairments and experience some form of social exclusion as a result.
WHAT: DaDa - Disability and Deaf Arts in partnership with AND are developing an innovative artists' online residency programme. This residency offers a unique opportunity for a disabled or deaf artist to work alongside a technologist to develop an online / web based art project or area of research. The aim of the residency is to enable an artist to investigate how technological advancements online has affected how disabled or deaf artists can make work.
WHEN: This residency will be initiated in September 2011 and the duration will be mapped out dependant on the selected proposal with the artist, technologist, AND and DaDa staff.
PAYMENTS: The following budget is available for the project: An artists' fee of £2000 GBP (to include any materials and/or production costs); Travel, access and accommodation expenses to the UK of up to £1800 GBP to participate in the AND festival 2011; A technologists fee of £1500 GBP will be made available to support the project (to include any materials and/or production costs).
DETAILS: We are seeking applications from artists working in emerging practices and have identified the following thematic as areas we are interested in investigating: The denial / shifting of identities; Democracy of the Internet; Activism Online; Disabled by Environment / Design. Resident artists are expected to engage collaboratively and creatively with a technologist and the partner organisation staff. The technologist will be selected in conversation with the artist based on the specific requirements of the selected proposal.
