Paul Hamlyn Foundation (PHF) is one of the most respected and innovative grant-giving trusts in the UK. Its support for the arts has not only been ground-breaking but hugely influential in shaping and influencing policy and the appreciation, enjoyment and participation of all art forms. Before the days of National Lottery support for the arts, PHF was leading the way in audience development strategies. Pro-active community and education outreach programmes, and dead cheap tickets encouraged people from all walks of life to see top-class opera at The Royal Opera House and drama at The National Theatre. It also supported many galleries, museums and other arts projects in developing novel ways to encourage people who may not normally enjoy the arts to engage and enjoy the wealth of creativity that the UK has to offer. The Foundation was set up by Paul Hamlyn, who became a household name in publishing in the 60s and 70s.
