International residencies enable artists to develop their studio practice in a supportive creative environment. However, what individual residencies offer varies greatly, as does the motivations and expectations of the artist applying to them.
This overview of some of the types of international residencies open to UK artists shows how this kind of opportunity can be a stepping stone toward developing new networks, exhibitions at home and abroad, and provide periods of contemplation and re-assessment.
