A rich and timely resource for all working in the
visual arts
Mark Gubb asks public art commissioners and consultants their views on how they select artists for commissions and what they expect artists to prepare for interview.
The process of public art commissioning can seem a confusing and distant one to the artists on the other end, whether this be through a personal lack of experience or a seeming lack of transparency to the process. Lack of information on the part of a client and a reticence to ask questions from artists can lead to misunderstanding for both artists and potential clients, leaving room for unsatisfactory working practices. Like any other creative process, its not cast in stone and theres no right way to do it, just ways that are suitable to a specific commission or situation.
