A rich and timely resource for all working in the
visual arts
Cockpit Arts chief executive Vanessa Swann and business development manager Ellen OHara speak to Jane Watt about Cockpits unique incubator scheme for designer-makers in London.
A good working environment that nurtures creativity, promotes professional development, develops business acumen and provides public selling opportunities sounds like a visual artist's wish list. Cockpit Arts has created such an environment in its unique incubator scheme for designer-makers in its two London bases in Holborn and Deptford.
Vanessa Swann points out: "We are the UK's only creative business incubator for designer-makers. All tenant artists benefit from affordable studio space, inclusive professional development support, one-to-one business mentoring and public selling opportunities. We open our doors to the public five times a year for our very popular open studios events." She is proud that "we are renowned for being a hotbed of creative talent. Our studios are brimming with cutting edge designer-makers working in a range of different markets." These include jewellery, ceramics, glass, printmaking, textiles, fashion, product design and letterpress printing.
