Art fairs have firmly established their place on the cultural calendar and none more so than Collect the international art fair for contemporary objects. What sets Collect apart, however, is that it is the only art fair in Europe to solely focus on contemporary craft, and with annual sales exceeding £1 million it continues to demonstrate that the market for high value craft is holding firm despite the current financial climate. Claire West, Director of Programmes at the Crafts Council, points out that "Collect reflects the increasing maturity of the craft market and collectors' recognition of the enduring value and iconic nature of craft alongside current fashions for conceptual art. Maybe the success of Collect represents an adverse reaction by the public to mass production and a recognition of a different set of values which they are applying across their lives." Collect was launched in the historic setting of the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in February 2004.
