A rich and timely resource for all working in the
visual arts
Anna Dumitrius collaborative practice takes performance, digital art, installation, microbiology and philosophy in its stride. She talks to Jane Watt about her practice and research.
'Experimental' is an adjective sometimes rather loosely applied to artists' practice to describe a new way of working, or a testing of new materials. Its three definitions accurately describe Anna Dumitriu's practice: employing ideas, methods or materials that have not been used before; relating to, or involving scientific experiments; using experience as evidence.
Dumitriu has collaborated with scientists on a number of projects over the past twelve years to make installations, interventions and socially engaged performances that use a range of digital and traditional media including, video projections, mobile phones, needlepoint and embroidery. She is currently artist in residence at The Centre for Computational Neuroscience and Robotics at Sussex University and undertaking a practice-based Fine Art PhD at the University of Brighton.
