A rich and timely resource for all working in the
visual arts
Jack Hutchinson profiles the Jerwood Drawing Prize in conversation with director and founder Anita Taylor, this years First Prize winner Virginia Verran, and Student Prize winner Warren Andrews.
The Jerwood Drawing Prize aims to promote and reward excellence and talent in contemporary drawing, through the support and recognition of established and emerging artists in the field. The annual exhibition provides a forum to test, evaluate and disseminate current drawing practice, and to gain knowledge and understanding about the field through the artists currently making work within the discipline.
The exhibition is open to all artists resident or domiciled in the UK, and works are submitted through regional collection centres. Following an exhibition at the Jerwood Space, London, the 2010 prize will tour to Cheltenham, Berkshire, Carmarthen and Durham.
Past winners include Melanie Jackson, Brighid Lowe, Charlotte Hodes and James Wright. The judging panel has included Yvonne Crossley, Director of the Drawing Gallery, Catherine de Zegher, art historian and curator, and artists Jason Brooks, Tania Kovats and Avis Newman.
