Winners announced for NAN Go and See bursaries
NAN is very pleased to announce the winners of the 16th round of NAN Go and See bursaries, awarded to artists’ groups for research and development towards peer networking and dialogue projects. The bursaries are supported by a-n The Artists’ Information Company through its subscribers, and are awarded quarterly by the NAN advisory group through a peer reviewed system.
Basement Art Project, a contemporary art network led by London based artist Yu-Chen Wang with a group of international artists, curators and researchers, will travel to the Netherlands to visit four artist-run spaces, W139 in Amsterdam, 1646 in Den Haag, Het Wilde Weten in Rotterdam and De Fabriek in Eindhoven.
Club Shepway, a network of artists and exhibitions in the Folkestone area of Kent, will go to Lille to make contact with artist-led group Le Vac, in order to develop lasting cross-Channel relationships with artists groups along the French coast. The project references the history of Folkestone being one of the historic Cinque Ports, with a wealth of social and industrial history with towns along the north of France, and uses the history and myth of their shared Channel waters as a starting point to initiate work and establish dialogue.
Holland & Lewis, an Wirral based artist group, will travel to Cuba, with a view to create long-term sustainable collaborations with like-minded Cuban artists, on the occasion of their forthcoming exhibition Tales from the New World curated by Humberto Diaz for the 10th Havana Biennial. The group aims to create sustainable links with artists and cultural bodies and facilitate dialogue between artists of different cultural contexts, providing opportunities for research which may lead to future collaborations and exchanges.
Post, a group of seven professional women artists who live and work on Merseyside, will go Linz, Austria, European Capital of Culture 2009, to undertake further research with comparable groups and individual female artists for Novas, an exhibition to coincide with International Women’s Day in March 2009. Post will also visit various arts associations and groups, with a view for the show to run during the Linz Cultural Summer, from June to August 2009.
Worcester Contemporary Art (WCA), a newly formed artist-led initiative in Worcestershire, will travel to Cumbria to visit organizations and individuals in order to explore research ethos, network methodology, art in rural setting and engaged practice in other provincial areas and develop a viable contemporary networking model for Worcestershire artists. Six artists from the group will go to Grizedale Arts, Art Gene and LAN - Lancashire Artist Network and make contact with socially engaged Cumbria artist William Titley.
News of the projects’ development will be published on this site. NAN Go and See bursaries offer up to £500 for research projects based around dialogue and networking. The next deadlines are 1 June, 1 Sept and 1 Dec 2009.
