Club Shepway was initiated in 2003 to establish an active network of artists and exhibitions in the Folkestone area of Kent responding specifically to the town's process of regeneration and gentrification. Since 2003, Club Shepway have staged numerous events including 'O' Dreamland' exhibition in 2007 with Transition Gallery, London, forging links with practitioners across Kent. The group further assisted in setting up www.folkestonefringe.com, an official fringe presence alongside the 2008 Folkestone Triennial and staged a series of installations in the towns Victorian Water Lift throughout the duration of the Triennial. The Water lift project involved a national call out for contributors transforming the lift space into a temporary exhibition venue. Club Shepway aims to investigate the surrounding area of South Kent, particularly the changing culture of the seaside resort by staging exhibitions and events; create opportunities for artists working within the area; and build links with other artists and independent arts organizations establishing a network of critical dialogue and artistic support.
