Current and archived a-n publications
As part of the publishing programme that marks a-n's 25th year we launched the a-n Collections series. Including anthologies of selected articles from the a-n archive contextualised by new commentary, and new themed texts selected by guest editors, a-n Collections examine and analyse the 'why, what and how' of artists' practice.
We welcome ideas and proposals for future a-n Collections.
Reports and summary resulting from a programme of dynamic, practice-led discussions on hospitality, space and contemporary art making, researched and directed by artist, curator and writer Sonya Dyer and jointly commissioned by a-n and Axis.
a-n's Collaborative relationships series exposes the working relationships between artists and the wide range of professionals they collaborate with. Running in its current format since 2008 we now have a rich archive of over thirty articles covering hugely varied projects.
Edited by Catherine Wilson, Community engagement explores the myriad ways artists can engage with specific communities via residencies, collaborations, cross-cultural projects and research. Alongside Wilson's introductory text are interviews with artists Gayle Chong Kwan, Guyan Porter, Mauricio Dias and Walter Riedweg, Rachel Grant and David Blandy.
Focused on current applied arts practice, this a-n Collection includes sixteen interviews with artists, commissioned by consultant and curator Frances Lord, alongside an introductory essay, pulling together themes and strands that emerge and reflect the sheer diversity of working practice in this area.

Charlotte Frost provides a guide to the various pathways dedicated organisations are forging in the production of inter-disciplinary visual arts. Alongside her introductory essay, specially commissioned profiles, selected key texts from a-n’s archive and from other important sources work as a map for further research into the realm of arts production.
To celebrate the launch of Artists talking, Jane Watt explores the development of Projects unedited, a-n’s open space for artists’ blogs. Since coming online in November 2006, a wealth of projects have unfolded day-by-day on Projects unedited giving unique insights into artists’ practice and experiences.

This a-n Collection puts a spotlight on artistic activity in rural locations. Rosemary Shirley's opening essay explores her frustration with the dominance of urban culture and assumptions often made about artistic practice that takes place outside of it. She highlights practices that embrace the many and varied experiences of the 'rural', with examples of artists' projects engaging with the everyday to represent and uncover ways of living largely invisible to mainstream culture.
This a-n Collection draws on intelligence gathered at the NAN Roadshow events focused on themes around the art market. Emilia Telese’s opening essay offers analysis of the markets for art in the UK and introduces the set of newly commissioned articles inspired or informed by the events, plus research references and complementary texts from a-n’s archive.

Focusing on public art, a-n Editor Gillian Nicol has selected key texts from a-n's archive and other important sources. Her introductory essay explores the nature of collaborative and creative processes involved in making artwork in the public realm. It identifies issues for the artists and arts professionals participating and raises concerns regarding our collective experience of public space.

Edith Marie Pasquier selects a range of artist's profiles from the a-n archive. In her introduction she analyses the varied routes that artists careers can take and offers insight into what drives artists' development. Includes updates on selected artist's recent and upcoming activities.
As part of marking our 25-year anniversary, Chicago-based Tom Burtonwood selects key texts from our publishing in the 1990s illustrating a-n's impact "as a vehicle for foregrounding developments in artists' practice and strategies". Includes articles by Nina Edge, Sunil Gupta, Rosie Millard, Grayson Perry and Jenny Saville.
