We’re publishing a raft of new content this month and, to emphasise that a-n is much more than a monthly magazine and entice readers to visit our website regularly, much of the new material will be exclusive to www.a-n.co.uk Freely available to all will be a portfolio of new material around Artists’ fees and payments, coming online from November onwards. This is kicked off with the special twelve-page supplement included with this issue. Establishing a charge rate for a working artist by Richard Murphy guides artists step-by-step through a methodology for establishing an individual day rate based on their own experience level, realistic number of days that can be worked annually and overheads that are particular to their practice. By providing this simple tool for artists to establish and demonstrate their value and thus a personal day rate, a-n is leading a shift away from the widespread practice within the visual arts of using any quoted ‘minimum fee’ as a static – and often maximum – rate of pay for artists.
