Jane Watt profiles PACE, public art commissioning agent for Royal Aberdeen Childrens Hospital.
Juliet Dean set up the Edinburgh-based public art consultancy PACE (Public Art Commissions and Exhibitions) in 1997. It is dedicated to bringing together artists, architects and designers to work on innovative public art schemes. They have worked on a number of large-scale projects including the Edinburgh Dental Institute, BT offices at Edinburgh Park, the Community School of Auchterarder. Octav Botnar Wing, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, London. Their involvement in developing and delivering a major public art programme for the new Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH) illustrates the multifarious roles that they take on and offer to commissioning clients and artists. It also highlights some of the challenges that can arise in public art commissioning.
