Report by Lucy Day setting out ways in which changes to CRB Disclosures application procedures may affect artists.
In response to members' professional needs, in 2010 AIR researched CRB Disclosures application procedures for England and Wales to explore whether AIR could support members through the process. At the same time, May's change of government put a hold on the soon-to-be-introduced Vetting and Barring scheme, and AIR delayed decision-making until there was clarification. On 11 February 2011 the government announced the overhaul of the Criminal Record Regime and Vetting and Barring Scheme as a result of the review of the criminal records regime carried out by independent adviser on criminality information Sunita Mason. This report by Lucy Day sets out how these changes may affect artists, with the caveat that all of the changes are part of the Protection of Freedoms Bill, introduced into the House of Commons in February 2011.
