Whilst living and working in the Victorian factory building that houses Springhill Institute, we have developed a migratory lifestyle that allows us to flee from the winter cold and, as importantly, helps in making contacts for the international artist-in-residence programme that we run in Birmingham. After Swedish artist Per Hüttner lived and worked with us in spring 2004, the opportunity arose to rent his flat in central Stockholm for the following winter. We gained support from Arts Council England for our time there, in order to develop our individual practices away from our commitments to running the project space in Birmingham. Before arriving, we had been given a list of contacts by Hüttner, so we had a head start in getting involved in the Stockholm art scene. Many of the contacts ran art spaces or other initiatives. We were warmly welcomed by Jon Brunberg and Annika Drougge, who had been involved in running SOC (pronounced Soos), a shop-front space with seven members.
