Seven Midlands-based producers and curators have taken part in an innovative programme, Momentum, to develop their ideas and support them in making art.
The scheme, delivered by Fierce! and DCA Consultants and funded by Arts Council England West Midlands, aims to provide professional development for creative individuals who are working independently, initiating their own ideas and making things happen in the region. The selected participants include, Ola Animashawun, Rob Hewitt, Alan James, Deborah Kermode, Mitra Memarzia, Lisa Meyer and Jenny Moore and Trevor Pitt. Over the last eighteen months they have taken part in group and individual training, networking, placements at established arts organisations and researched and visited national and international projects in their field, such as ANTI Festival in Finland and the Venice Biennale. Each participant was also allocated a mentor to provide professional development support on a one-to-one basis. Mentors included artist David Patten, Lois Keidan, Director of Live Arts Development London, Guy Hutchins of Moby Dick Productions, Julie Wier of Visible Noise and Zoe Sherman from arts organisation Relational.
