A unique project for artists, creative thinkers and cultural practitioners, Arts Reverie is located in the heart of a traditional pol (neighbourhood) in the historic city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The building is a typical traditional 1920s haveli (old mansion) and comes under the "remarkable category" as defined by the Heritage Department, originally belonging to a Jain jeweller. Restoration of the building, with its grand façade, elaborate stucco work, decorative pediments and bright coloured glass panels, was carried out by the Ahmedabad Heritage Centre as part of the Indo-French Cooperation Project for the revitalisation of Ahmedabad. Arts Reverie was set up by arts managers Anupa Mehta of Art Works, India, and UK-based Jeremy Theophilus and Barney Hare Duke of A Fine Line: Cultural Practice, to foster creative thinking and international exchanges and offer space for artists to work and present new ideas. Arts Reverie runs an art programme linked to other cultural regeneration initiatives, specifically linking heritage with the city's contemporary arts scene. Year-round accommodation for up to four artists of any discipline for short/long term residencies is offered; with options on full or half board; an exhibition/performance/experimental presentation space, free wifi, reference library and involvement with a broad programme of cultural events.
