Artists taking the lead
From over 2,000 entries, 59 projects were shortlisted for Artists Taking the Lead. Artists get a £5,000 development grant to pitch to September’s artist panels. The twelve commissions to be developed in 2010-11 will be announced in October. There is £500,000 to spend in the nine English regions, £190,000 in Northern Ireland, £460,000 in Scotland and £230,000 in Wales.

From 732 entries in London shortlisted are Martin Creed: The Big Ring; Alfie Dennen and Paula Le Dieu: Bus.Tops; Fuel: Fuel for the Tube; Simon Elliott and Auro Foxcroft: Breathing Humans into Buildings and Nitin Sawhney: Global Bedroom Orchestra. London panel is Deborah Bull, dancer, writer and TV personality; Justine Simons, Director Fourth Plinth public art commission; Lucy Neal, independent artist producer; Alex Fleetwood, founder Hide&Seek; Natalie Wade, music and youth projects; James Gaitskill, young arts advisor; Andrea Rose, Director of Visual Arts, British Council, and Amanda Smethurst, Director of Development, Arts Council England London.
