Paris Photo (Carrousel du Louvre, 19-22 November) is the place to be for anyone interested in or working with photography.
Bringing together a total of eighty-nine galleries (seven from the United Kingdom) and thirteen publishers from twenty-three countries, this prestigious event will show works from 500 international photographers. With 75% of participants from abroad, thirty-one first-time exhibitors and seven new countries represented (Iran, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Russia, Tunisia, UAE), the selection is as diverse as it is rich, offering an exceptional panorama of photographic expression spanning the nineteenth century to the present day. Every year Paris Photo highlights a specific foreign scene and this year is no different. The 2009 edition shines a spotlight on Arab and Iranian photography in what promises to be an unprecedented exploration of the cultural milieu from the region. Curated by Catherine David, who was responsible for Documenta X in Kassel in 1997 as well as numerous exhibitions and publications on Middle Eastern creative arts, this year's project is based on three components.
