This month we take a look at some current projects in the world of commissions, from innovative works in the public realm to those in a gallery interpretation programme and performing artists film and video.
Celfwaith is a public art consultancy based in Cardiff committed to offering a personal service in developing and managing commissions, preparing public art strategies and curating temporary exhibitions. With an extensive knowledge and understanding of artists' practice in both the fine and applied arts, traditional and new media, Celfwaith are constantly researching new artists to add to their database. Projects in 2009 have included public art strategies, commissions, and artists as part of design teams in Swansea, Pontypridd, Weymouth, Cardiff, Barry, and Blaenavon. The public art strategy for the SA1 development in Swansea, which was completed in April, is about to be implemented. Swansea SA1 is a significant development project which will transform the former Prince of Wales Dock into a business, leisure and residential quarter in close proximity to Swansea city centre. The development aims to offer a complete package for people: a place to live, work and play and a place where commerce and culture can intermingle. There will soon be an open call for artists to express interest in working in SA1 as Celfwaith are compiling a database to be used as part of the selection process...
