'Re-Route' at Devon Guild 14 March 26 April addresses challenges faced by five mid-career makers awarded a contemporary craft fellowship (CCFS). Drawing together research, personal explorations and findings, the exhibition represents the culmination of their year-long fellowships. Developed to help mid-career designer makers in South West England, CCFS is supported by Crafts Council, Arts Council England South West, ArtsMatrix, Devon Guild of Craftsmen and Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, with in-kind support from Plymouth College of Art and Design. Needs of mid-career makers were identified through research, consultation with craft industry experts and discussions with ArtsMatrix, the continuing professional development agency for south west creative practitioners. Each fellow embarked upon the project with a desire to try something new, explore new ways of working, or take time out from business pressures. A £4,000 bursary, peer-to-peer networking events and a mentor gave the makers freedom to explore new philosophies, projects or ideas.
