Caroline Saul, Bulbous Form One, recycled plastic milk bottles, 45x45cm, 2008.
Wax? Porcelain? Paper? In fact Caroline Saul's Bulbous Forms are made from recycled plastic milk bottles. Through her own process involving chopping, dying and heating, Saul transforms a mundane everyday object into delicate lace-like sculptures. Graduating from the University of Brighton's Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics course in 2008, Saul loves materials: "My work is a process-led exploration of colour, texture, pattern, shape and form. I really enjoy the transformational processes that I use to create my work, exploring both the translucency of material and the form created with it. Recycling is a huge part of my practice, there are lots of great materials out there just waiting to be reshaped and reworked!" In July 2008 Saul's career was kick-started when the University of Brighton purchased several works for their prestigious Aldrich Collection. Her work is currently on show at Bilston Craft Gallery near Wolverhampton, as one of nineteen artists commissioned to make work celebrating the gallery's tenth anniversary.
