South West-based skills and enterprise development agency ArtsMatrix closed suddenly on 3 December.
In a press release, the board blamed the "very challenging financial and economic period for development agencies in the sector" and warned that "the closure of ArtsMatrix is part of a worrying trend right across the UK". The company has now ceased trading and is seeking advice to convene a creditors meeting to place the company into voluntary liquidation. Arts Matrix enabled thousands of arts and creative industries professionals to develop the skills to make the most of their careers. It worked with a range of funders and partners to deliver high quality training and support to thousands of creative individuals and businesses throughout the South West. It received consistently high client satisfaction ratings. One hundred per cent of creative individuals who used the services said they would recommend them to other creative businesses. It was also praised by external evaluators for its "value-for-money, economic impact, operations and management". In the last three years ArtsMatrix worked face to face with 3,000 people and supported a further 4,000 practitioners in the creative sector every year, delivering significant success.
