Next month sees the return of one of the UKs largest international festivals of electronic arts.
The biennial AV Festival returns to Newcastle Gateshead, Middlesbrough, and Sunderland, 5-14 March, presenting a diverse programme consisting of exhibitions, performances, screenings, talks, club nights and symposia, by over 100 visual artists, musicians and filmmakers, and will include fifteen world premieres of work newly commissioned by the festival. This year's theme is 'energy', which is examined from a variety of different perspectives ranging from kinetic, sound, light and electromagnetic energy, to the spiritual and human. Explains Festival Director Rebecca Shatwell: "The central thread running throughout AV Festival 10 is 'energy' and we've focused this year on showing work by artists, musicians and filmmakers who use and respond to energy from a scientific, technological and environmental perspective. This includes artists working with machines, fire, air, water, sound and light, through to psychic and human energy."
