Its encouraging to see a number of AIR members amongst the 152 people appointed by Arts Council England to write assessments on the artistic work of its regularly funded organisations.
Assessments by artists, arts managers, academics and journalists will feed into ACE's evaluation of regularly funded organisations, discussions about artistic quality and a broad evidence base to inform funding decisions. They will be shared with arts organisations and may contextualise organisations' own conversations about artistic quality. Assessors get a two-year contract to write between ten and fourteen reports annually for £1,000 a year plus expenses. Mike Golding is Associate Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader BA Contemporary Photographic Practice, Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne. He uses still photography and digital video to make work about the past, memory and photography and the role they play in social, political and psychological formation. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and undertaken residencies in Australia and Finland. In 2008 he completed a PhD at Sunderland University. A consultant for the creative industries and textile artist, from 2000-08 Barbara Gunter-Jones managed Crafts Council projects including Chelsea Crafts Fair, designer-maker trade missions to New York, Tokyo and Philadelphia and Origin at Somerset House.
