In TRIBE, Sarah Cole’s meetings with young women from Southwark is transformed into an exhibition that presents the audience with melodic sounds and strange encounters.
The gallery becomes an interactive and social space as visitors encounter freshly laid grass, video works such asOnesie Nationand are invited to activate sounds derived from the specific language of the young women’s group, translated and transformed into music-box scores.
TRIBE draws upon the cultural references of popular children’s stories, the dark promise of traditional fairytales and contemporary perspectives on individualism and ideas of ‘community’. Read full listing…
Due to last minute cancellations, we have a few places available for the Granted: Crowdfunding seminar at Artsadmin on the 2 May 2013.
The session looks at identifying your key audiences, making the most of your networks and developing a strategy and timeline for making the most effective use of micro-financing. Participants need to be computer literate and familiar with self-directed learning, as this session relies on these. You should also be familiar with using social media and ideally have undertaken some initial research into the basics of crowdfunding.
Read full listing…Dodge The Shredder is a workshop that empowers artists to fundraise effectively and create a financial strategy for their practice. Created, developed and delivered by Emilia Telese.
The session looks at:
- Approaching galleries and funding bodies with a great proposal
- Minimising rejection when applying for funding
- How to create a financial support strategy for your art practice
- Writing about your practice effectively
- Finding out about the best sources of funding for your practice
This session offers tailor-made feedback sessions for funding proposals in progress in a friendly, supportive environment. Participants are asked to bring copies of a fundraising proposal they are working on. Each proposal will be examined and suggestions will be made to improve chances of success.

A consortium of five artist-focused organisations - DACS, a-n, AIR, Axis and Artquest - has come together to explore how they can supplement the financial support available to artists through the current portfolio of public and private funding bodies. We intend to establish a fund that will disburse small amounts of money to artists (£1K - £3K) so that they can develop new work.
