WHO: Early career stage artists/practitioners who are interested in developing ideas and work in a social context.

WHAT: The Starter Studio Programme for Engaged Practice is located at the Knutton Road Studios within the brand new SOAR Works enterprise  complex in the Parson Cross area of Sheffield. 
From 2013 Yorkshire Artspace will offer 4 places per annum for a period of up to 1 year (applicants can suggest their own timeframe). Yorkshire Artspace are now accepting applications for the 2013.

Time on the programme will be focused around a direct learning opportunity which should enable you to research, actively test ideas and explore approaches to engaged practice in a 'real-life' setting. Yorkshire Artspace are offering: TIME (up to 1 year), SPACE (rent free access to shared studio at Knutton Road) & MONEY (an enabling budget of £1,250) to devise, develop and deliver work within a community setting and explore just how your work/practice can incorporate the involvement/ engagement/participation of the Parson Cross community and others. This is a chance to gain direct experience, skills and knowledge of working within and responding to a social context such as Parson Cross.

This is a supported learning opportunity and as such artists/practitioners will have access to individual mentor(s) to support them at every stage of the process and the Yorkshire Artspace Programme Manager who oversees all of the socially engaged programme activity in the neighbourhoods. There is a structured review/evaluation process in place to ensure everyone gets the most from their experience as well as access to ‘crit groups’ and other related professional development events.   Yorkshire Artspace are also still exploring certain partnerships with key organisations within the city/UK to further enhance the offer to artists/practitioners.
