Making the most of Interface
Richard Taylor looks at how Interface can be used as a free to access learning resource
Free to access for Students
You get much more from a-n if you register with the free twelve-month student subscription (see more about this here): but for there is still a lot of free to access material available for people during their studies, such as Interface.
Interface acts as a community of critical debate on contemporary art issues and practices: its users and contributors are anything from artists, writers and students providing 'unedited' critical commentary and reviews on shows, publications and other topics in the creative sector.
All is highly relevant for students at any level wishing to hone in on their skills and get their professional profiles networked to others working in the same field. What's more is that you can register and join in with Interface to upload your own content and receive tailored e-bulletins updating you on the site's activity (this is also possible, although minus the Interface e-bulletin, if you register and use Degrees unedited as a free student subscriber: any reviews you upload through this also get copied to the Interface archive).
So here are some quick bullet points from a-n's Director of Programmes (she is most definitely blessed with the know how!) Susan Jones:
Through Interface students can:
- Search our huge bank of FREE to access reviews of contemporary art exhibitions both in the UK and Internationally.
- Develop their own critical writing skills by reading the reviews of others and by uploading reviews they have written themselves.
- Involve themselves in current debates by using the comment function to generate feedback and ideas on existing writing.
- Access significant professional development opportunities offered by Interface, including expenses paid trips to major international and UK arts festivals and biennials.
- Keep informed of new writing, events and opportunities through receiving the Interface monthly e-bulletin.
- Promote exhibitions and projects they are involved in through adding a What's On listing to the site (available to full subscribers only).
