EMARE European Media Artists in Residence Exchange 2008-07-30
This programme offers a two-month residency in one of four centres: VIVID (UK), Werkerlitz (Germany), InterSpace (Bulgaria) and Impakt (Netherlands). EMARE residencies allow media artists to experiment and develop their practice within a new international context, with the support of an established media art institute.
In May 2008, young Czech artist Teresa Severová opened her first UK solo show at VIVID following an EMARE residency. Her practice involves the manipulation of still and moving images to evolve scenes simultaneously static and dynamic. For her culminating exhibition Severová looked to the crowded, bustling nature of the city in which she had been resident;"The installation was directly inspired by the commercial warehouses in Birmingham. Through local junctions, intersecting motorways and railways thousands of people and goods are transported in and out of the city every day – to the point of overfilling".
VIVID will be selecting two further residents for 2009 towards the end of the year.
