The ACW is the national organisation with specific responsibility for funding and developing the arts in Wales, including the distribution of lottery money. It receives an annual grant from the National Assembly for Wales and additional support from other public bodies. It operates a number of grants schemes for artists and craftspeople and publishes newsletters and factsheets. The Visual Arts and Crafts Department division is based in the Cardiff office. There are also ACW offices in Carmarthen and Colwyn Bay.

Arts Council of Wales is continuing its commitment to provide professional development opportunities for artists and curators as part of Cymru yn Fenis Wales in Venice. This opportunity will possibly have significant importance for their professional practice and/or creative programme and will in turn support the development of the visuals arts in Wales.
