Calgary Zoo
In June 2009, the Zoo completed an extensive review of its long-term goals that resulted in the creation and adoption of a new vision and mission statement. Many of the Zoo? stakeholders, including staff, management and Board members, participated in the process, which was designed to create a framework for future Zoo activities and initiatives that is consistent with the organization? purpose and mandate. While the final report is a comprehensive document containing detailed observations and conclusions on many aspects of the Zoo and its operating environment, the broad direction the Zoo intends to pursue in the coming years is captured in its Mission and Vision statements.

Calgary Zoo Public Art Project [ 27 May 2011 ]
The Calgary Zoo is seeking a professional artist(s) or artist team with established public art experience for a public artwork that will be a welcoming landmark at the Zoo's north entrance.Located moments from downtown in the heart of the city, the Calgary Zoo is a main visitor attraction that welcomes approximately 1.2 million visitors annually. The facility is both a zoological institution caring for apprximately 1,000 animals as well as a botanical garden displaying hundreds of species of plants.The entire zoo encompasses approximately 100 acres of land and is open 363 days a year.The proposed site for the artwork is the north side of Memorial Drive, adjacent to Alberta Plaza, the newly renovated parking lot and main entrance. The artist's challenge is to create a unique artwork that reflects the mission of the Calgary Zoo: "to engage visitors in enjoyable and unique experiences, connect our community with nature, and inspire actions which support conservation."The Public Art Program encourages artists working in all media to apply.
