Affectionately dubbed The Glastonbury of Craft The Contemporary Craft Fair has built up a loyal following of 7500 visitors. In June 2008 165 of the UKs leading makers of contemporary craft headed to the sumptuous hills of South Devon, demand for stands outstripped supply by 3-1!
In 2008 furniture designer maker, Chris Eckersley had his innovative and witty garden furniture included in Terence Conrans latest publication as one of 100 of his favourite products. Fashion designer and, typically on-trend, recycled fabric skirt maker Alison Willoughby, showed her work but also ran a workshop using some of her innovative techniques. Internationally acclaimed textile and public artist Michael Brennard-Wood, silversmith Rachel Gogerly and willow sculptor Lizzie Farey lent gravity to the proceedings.
Prizes winners will take away cash and a stand at next years event for some, and include Wiltshire based glass engraver Ruth Dresman; Candy Tiles Best Stand Award winner, Scottish willow sculptor Lizzie Farey; Diana Porter Contemporary Jewellery Best Jeweller Alison MacCleod; Proof Magazine's Feature Award hand printed wallpaper maker Hugh Dunford Wood and the Nat West Best New Business Mirri Damer.
