Bargoed Public Artwork Commission
WHO: Caerphilly County Borough Council wishes to appoint an artist to work with the Design Team set up to deliver the Bargoed Town Centre Regeneration Project to ensure art forms are fully integrated into the public realm.
WHAT: to develop and install a variety of imaginative pieces of public artwork within the town centre. The artist will be expected to work with the local community in order to develop proposals. A number of opportunities exist for the introduction of Public Artwork within the town including street furniture, entrance floorscapes, stone cut lettering in the floorscapes developed through a community literature project, a viewpoint sculpture and an architectural glass project.
WHEN: the project must be completed by December 2013. The closing date for stage one submissions is noon on Friday 30 July 2010.
PAYMENTS: funding has been secured from European ERDF and WAG for a multi million pound regeneration project for Bargoed town centre. In addition, the Council has secured £150,000 from European ERDF sources for implementation of an artwork strategy for Bargoed. The budget for this project including collaboration, planning applications, concept and detailed design, foundations, fabrication and installation is £150,000 (excluding VAT).
DETAILS: Bargoed is located in the north of Caerphilly County Borough within the Upper Rhymney Valley. It is the largest district town centre within the valley serving the surrounding communities of Aberbargoed, Gilfach and Pengam. Bargoed has seen substantial investment in recent years with a £14 million land reclamation scheme helping to create a landform for a relief road and new retail development.
