a-n is offering bursaries of £600 to enable around 20 of its Artist members to attend either the preview of Venice Biennale (10-12 May 2017) or the preview of Documenta in Kassel (7-9 June 2017). Both events offer an exceptional chance to see work by internationally regarded artists and to benefit from networking with the many UK and international curators, artists and arts leaders who attend.

Applications accepted from now and up to 12 noon Thursday 12 January

Eligibility: Visual artists based in the UK (or with a UK bank account) with a current a-n Artist membership.

  • Students undertaking an undergraduate course.
  • Artists within 24 months of completing an undergraduate course.
  • Artists who received a Travel or Professional Development bursary from a-n in 2016.
  • Artists who received a Venice bursary from a-n in 2013 or 2015.

Conditions: The reporting requirement for bursary recipients is either to self-post a review of at least one exhibit on a-n Reviews or to self-post a blog report on a-n Blogs by a date that will be specified in the offer to successful applicants. This approach to reporting is designed to both increase visibility for the artists themselves whilst widening access to and knowledge of Venice Biennale and Documenta to many others across the visual arts. We will also be programming coverage of the two events on a-n News and it may be that your writing is re-presented there or that you are commissioned separately to write for a-n News.
