Since 2008, AIR has been pushing for independent artist representation within implementation of Arts Council’s England’s Turning point, originally launched in 2006 as a ten-year strategic visual arts plan designed to increase government funding for the visual arts.

Consultation with CARFAC

Having celebrated its fourtieth birthday in 2008, CARFAC is keen to rebuild ties with the UK. AIR advisory group members will be meeting in June with April Britski Executive Director of CARFAC (Canadian Artists Representation) during her fact-finding mission researching attitudes to support to professional artists in the UK.

AIR invited to join ECA

Following AIR Advisory Group member Sally Sheinman’s exploratory visit to the European Council of Artists (ECA) conference in Dublin in November, AIR is being invited to join this important umbrella body, composed of interdisciplinary artists’ councils and artists’ organisations from twenty-five European countries.

Following AIR Advisory Group member Paul Scott’s April meeting with the organising group, AIR’s proposal to join this pan-artform practitioner body will be formally ratified at ECA’s Autumn AGM.

2nd birthday celebration

In November, AIR celebrated its two-year milestone and the launch of the Artists’ Insurance Policy (AIP) with a gathering for artists and the art world. Held in the Art Café at London’s Toynbee Studios, AIR Advisory Group member artist Mitra Memarzia presented her take on the value of collective action.
