I have been working with the i2c protocol to communicate the motor speed information from one Arduino to another. There is so much help available online for this sort of thing.

Yesterday I almost got to the point where I had moved the scarf from one end to the other and then altered the direction. This was with an incremental speed value so the movement gets faster. I ran out of time just at the end so I will continue next session.
I was using an Arduino Motor shield and a stepper with a timing belt
