‘Bombed – Full Circle’ was a light and sound event with live poetry and performances on 4th of June 2021, on the anniversary of Winston Churchill’s famous WWII speech in 1940 calling the people of  Britain to action “We Will Fight On The Beaches’

The work explored the WWII bombing blitzes of Coventry, Dresden and Birmingham through a large-scale video projection on the walls  and catacombs of Warstone Lane Cemetery, the oldest in Birmingham. This event also marked the refurbishment of the cemetery’s Historic landscape that witnessed two world wars. This was the first time such an event had taken place in the cemetery.

Importantly, the animation contains oral testimonies of local Birmingham Blitz survivors as well as those  from Coventry and Dresden, Germany. ‘Bombed – Full Circle ‘ is the third part of  the trilogy ‘Bombed- A Moonlight Sonata’ – Part 1 at Herbert Gallery 2011; Part 2 in Dresden, Germany at festival Szen:Europa October 2019. A culminating exhibition is scheduled for February 2022 at the Herbert Gallery and Museum, Coventry.

Audience numbers were limited due to Covid-19 restrictions and the event had to be re-scheduled twice, originally scheduled November 2020.  The event was only possible by the immense support and  collaboration from Jewellery Quarter Cemeteries Project and Arts Council UK.
