I have just arrived back from a trip to the south of Spain and brought back some lovely seed pods I have found, I will use them in my continuing making process to influence new pieces

I have been busy sourcing a supplier and manufacturer of bespoke perspex boxes, I have found one in Scotland through the Makeworks directory of  companies in Scotland. they are based in Glasgow, and can deliver to Edinburgh shortly after Easter, so all going well to fit into my timetable. I am also commissioning Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop technician Johannes to make the base for me and we have had a good discussion about the details and construction. The perspex box will be delivered to ESW and then base made to fit it.

I have just fired my kiln for the first batch of seed pods, so far 123, I have planned to make 216, which is 6x6x6 to be hung in a cube. I will now sand the pieces with 3 grades of wet and dry paper, to make crisp edges and smooth surfaces. i am really enjoying the process , it is meditative being in my studio and slowly creating one by one.

I have been busy in my studio making porcelain paperclay seed pods  I have made paperclay as it is much easier to work with than porcelain on its own. it takes longer to prepare but I find the results better and I can refine pieces after an initial firing by sanding.

I have been inspired by my collection of seeds that I have collected whilst on holidays in UK and abroad as well as from my garden. I have been making forms in response to seeds rather than copy, I like the generic shapes that make me understand it as a seed/pod and use theses in making new objects.
