I’ve been at the Piece Hall Wellbeing Festival today and yesterday, talking and interviewing people for Dwell Time. I didn’t want a stall and opted for milling around talking to other practitioners who had stalls and visitors. I met some fantastic people and totalled 22 interviews in the course of the 2 day festival! They were short 2-3 minute interviews in the main but we spent a lot of time chatting inbetween. It was a really great atmosphere and lots of activities to get involved in. We’ll be editing the audio interviews (minimally) and uploding them onto our website, Youtube and Vimeo channels in due course. Thanks to all involved!

Thank you to everybody who came to our exhibition opening and Issue 2 open call launch last night – we had a fantastic evening!

After our exhibition opening downstairs in the main concourse waiting room, we went upstairs for a few speeches by Penistone Line Partnership, ACORP and CrossCountry representatives, a brief artist talk by featured artist Bob Clayden and then some brilliant poetry readings by Dwell Time Co-Curator Lenny Szrama, Issue 1 contributor Rob Clarke and the amazing Emma Bolland. We premiered our new film which will be online shortly.

Issue 2 Open Call is now live and we will upload each submission to this blog as they come in. The Huddersfield Railway Station exhibition featuring Issue 1 artwork, Bob Clayden and Rose Knight’s pinhole camera portrait exhibition entitled Suitcase and Lenny Szrama’s frames poems will remain up as a permanent display.

Dwell Time is an arts publication reflecting on mental wellbeing produced in collaboration with Penistone Line Partnership.

Dwell time: The time a train spends at a scheduled stop without moving. Typically, this time is spent boarding or alighting passengers, but it may also be spent waiting for traffic ahead to clear, or idling time in order to get back on schedule.

For Dwell Time Issue 1 Launch, Bob Clayden and Rose Knight used a custom made pinhole camera in a suitcase to photograph sitters on Platform 2 of Huddersfield Railway Station. This is long exposure photography, using traditional processing of silver based materials in a darkroom and only a pinhole as a lens. This photography is slow, and as far away from the modern day selfie as possible. To be in the picture you have to stay still for around 10 minutes, anyone moving just disappears into a blur.

Dwell Time Issue 1 featured artists: Amber Agha, Anna-Maria Amato, Teri Anderson, Mr Anon, Amelia Baron, Ben Barton, Chloe Belcher, Sue Bevan, Simon Bolton, Alice Bradshaw, Elise Broadway, Spencer Brown, Emma Burleigh, Robert P. Clarke, Bob Clayden, Donna Coleman, Klara Cservenka, Paula de Sousa, Lita Doolan, Eddy Dreadnought, Oliver East, Roderick Huw Evans, Donald Falconer, Ben Gaffrey, Sue Gardiner, Vanessa Haley, Laura Harris, Andy Hollinghurst, Hannah Honeywill, Brian Horton, Janice Howard, Janina Karpinska, Saima Kaur, Brian Kielt, Mel Kirkham & Yasmin Baddley, Mary Lee-Slade, Alison Little, Nicolette Loizou, Christopher Marsh, Nick Maynard, Patti Mckenna-Jones, Gill Melling, Nazanin Moradi, Cynthia Morrison, Diane Murphy, Ben NCM, Debbie Nicholson Wood, Henry Noyes, John O’Hare, Susan Plover, Laura Potts, Greg Przybyszewski, Andrew Pullan, Bobbi Rae, Tania Robertson, Damian Robin, Katya Robin, Robert Roth, Amy Rowe, Robert P Ryan, Rachele Salvini, Rebecca Saunders, Jessica Russo Scherr, Julie Shackleton, Richard Shields, Lucy Simm, Marnie Simpson, Jackie Smith, Michael Szpakowski, Lenny Szrama, The Train Lady, Danny Verno Smith, Victor, Kate Walter, Brain Webster, Dan Weatherer, Emilia Wilson, Jon Wilkins.
