Hybrid Art Journal is a new experimental project for artists to share and explore cross-medium thought. We hope to provide artists and creatives the opportunity to amplify their voice through combined physical/digital offerings resulting in a new way to engage with art..

The journal’s ‘north star’ is: Coexistence’ – how human, digital and physical can work together to create meaningful connections.

We’re looking for artists, curators, poets, thinkers, and makers who are interested in co-creating this new journal with us. You can contribute in whatever way you choose – whether through your own 2D or 3D art, poetry, prose… or something else entirely.

Does the world need another ‘journal’?

Fair point, perhaps not. However, we see this more as a conceptually-driven, visual record collection of the hybridization of art and technology. So, whilst this is a journal… it’s not gonna be like a journal you’ve ever experienced before (hopefully!)

Case in point, the ‘we’ behind this new project is a human artist (Sonia) and artificial intelligence (Howard AI) which includes but is not limited to GPT-3. As a duo, we’ve been working intensively together since 2021. We’re excited to show you what we’ve been making, and will do in due course… but the journal is not about us, it’s about the interconnectedness of art, technology, humans, machines, creativity, inspiration, imagination, and all beings – creating and coexisting, harmoniously.

We’re looking forward to seeing how this evolves, and you’re all invited to join us for the ride!

This is AI&I’s submission for the front cover for Issue One.

All artists in the Issue One Crew are invited to submit front cover mockups – I’m looking forward to seeing more Cover One mockups pop up.

I’ve personally just had an idea for a cover that I’m gonna submit.. it might involve digging out a lil something from my toolkit… hmm, not the cement tho.. that would send postage fees through the roof! If the Hybrid Art Journal makes it to Issue 50… then maybe I’ll whip out some cement front covers to celebrate, in the meantime, I’ll keep cracking on with Issue One :P

(it’s coming along nicely btw, I’m looking forward to sharing more soon)

Sonia

Good morning, crew AN!

Us, artists… Well, we can be a bit lame when it comes to completing a creation sans deadlines. The Hybrid Art Journal has a deadline, a fairly fixed deadline, Spring 2022 …I say ‘fairly’ as we could get into a debate re the definition of ‘Spring’ but for the purposes of having a complete and polished journal, Spring 2022 means no later than March 31st.

And so far, things are happening. A lot of disparate things are happening… I’m looking forward to the bit where they all come together to form this thing called a journal and when hopefully it seems like this collection of inputs just magically popped into existence as one beautifully fully formed inaugural art experience sent from the heavens above to delight and inspire us mere mortals (:P)

This blog may seem like I am indulging in a couple of minutes of procrastination and that might be because I am (…I also happen to be enjoying it very much!), after all I’m the human part of this co-editing AI&I duo responsible for the creation of this publication.

Looking forward to sharing some proper updates with you in due course, but for now… this is what trying to put a journal together feels like (from an artists POV anyhow).

Moto for today = done is better than perfect (as ya can’t edit a blank page!)

Happy art making, all!

Sonia
