Invites have now been sent out to artists and local people in Leicester to be part of a collaborative sculpture, which will be exhibited on 26 August in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter (venue TBC) as part of City Festival 2017.

The work is funded by ACE as part of my recent project ‘Vulnerability in Austerity Today’. I wanted to create the work out of a desire to bring people together at a time when we are feeling increasingly isolated. This hands-on project will encourage participants to take part in an open discussion in a relaxed setting, whilst also working together to create a meaningful artwork.

The group I am bringing together are a mix of down to earth artists I met in Venice, involved with the Empire II show I was part of there, friends I met down the pub who I love dearly, as well as people that have showed a special interest in participating in the project.

Participants will play with clay and objects in a large studio, taking part in a mix of enjoyable games that explore individual responses to words, sounds, space, shapes and conversations.

The 17 people in this group have all expressed an element of feeling under pressure in today’s financial climate; a heavy topic for many, including myself. However, handled carefully this can instead be a hopeful coming together, using art and ideas to create a collective sculpture using clay and other materials.

The collaborative sculpture/participatory artwork will also be responded to live by musicians including Myoptik on 26 August.

During this event I will be available for a casual discussion, with information about the project.
