I was awarded a Professional Development Bursary by a-n The Artists Information Company. The bursary partly funded a trip to the Ashanti region in Ghana (West Africa) where I undertook an apprenticeship under the supervision of the Goldsmith of the Asantehene (Overall King). The Ashanti goldsmiths have a very specific and unique method of lost wax casting – which results in highly detailed and exquisite miniature sculptures in metal.

Due to the complexity and patience required to master this technique, I am planning a second trip to the region to further expand my training and knowledge. I look forward to becoming a guardian of this ancient craft so that I can pass it on to a future generation of young makers.

These Images show some of the processes we used to achieve the end result.

Please see the attached links to videos of my journey so far – I look forward to sharing more in the future as I develop.
