A long time since I posted… For nine months I knitted in shades of grey, then at the point when the first piece was lost, I switched back into the bright colours I was using for that one. Since then I feel much more connected to the piece, don’t forget to take it out with me (which happened a couple of times before), and am always ready to get it out. I have to admit the cold has made it really hard, and a couple of times waiting for buses I’ve had to just note the time and do the knitting once I’ve got on the bus… (my gloves are so thick I wouldn’t be able to work the yarn and if I took them off my hands would be too cold to knit – though a guy the other day did ask me if it keeps my hands warm – I had to say not that much!).

The piece is about 4 metres long now. I’ve really noticed how often I don’t wait – on a day when I’m waiting for bus/tube/train maybe four or even six times, I might wait for a couple of minutes twice. In a way that’s almost frustrating because I don’t get to do the knitting, but it’s interesting how big a space waiting takes in my attention when actually I don’t spend that much time doing it (at least not for public transport).
