In this piece, I painted a symbolic representation of David Bowie’s song ‘Life on Mars?’ released in 1971. The line ‘Now she walks through her sunken dream’ conjured images of a surreal, blurred reality and the young girl with ‘mousy hair’ trapped in her own dream having left her home with her parents arguing. I chose to paint this in response to my own feelings of ambiguity. Coming to terms with my parents seperation at a young age and dealing with the emotions involved lends me a sense of understanding of this song which is considered abstract to most.
