Arriving Sunday 16th August to begin my residency at Stiwdio Maelor in Corris, staying until 1st September.

Corris is located in a beautiful setting at the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. I am immediately taken with the relationship between town and surrounding landscape.

On my first day (17th August) I set out on 2 walks with the intention being to explore but also to begin to consider how I might work with the landscape. Using a pedometer, map, and compass, looking for footpaths I began walking. Becoming very interested on my walks in the points where man made structures and interventions meet the landscape.

Finding these points I began to trace them directly from the landscape onto acetate to take back to the studio, hoping these might provide some start points for abstracting and mapping alongside information gathered from the pedometer, map, and compass.

Ideas I want to explore: mapping territory walked and points where man made interventions meet landscape, landscape as continually evolving, archaeology of it. A map in motion, unravelling layers as it is passed through.

Seeking in the work to open up, develop, and further understand recent drawing process and ideas, wanting to work with material obtained from site, then develop techniques and approaches to it. Giving the process greater physicality.
