This is a new piece of work that I have begun. I found a large frame and a piece of hardboard which I cut to fit. This is the first layer using unwanted emulsion paints which I have sourced. I have also drawn into the paint with pencil. I will use oil paints and oil sticks once the paint is fully dried.

My artwork is being exhibited in the university cafe.

I think the paintings work well against the grey background. More photos to follow.

Whilst working on this canvas I have used alot of salvaged paints and materials, alot of what I do is about recycling and reusing as I am very conscious of the environment.  It is very upsetting to see alot of useful things being thrown away and put into landfil. I have been particularly upset recently about the state of the oceans with all the plastic waste forming islands of detritus.  I think this is reflected in this painting which reminds me of the sea. I used aluminium shavings, a waste product from a building site to add texture to my painting, I then painted over it and I think it looks alot like seaweed.

I have started on a new canvas. So far I have used emulsion and pencil. This canvas has taken a completely different path to the last one which must be due to my state of mind. I was quite angry when I started the last painting and on this day I was very calm. I want to really explore textures on this canvas as well as continuing to use a multitude of different paints.

I’ve finally finished this artwork. I have come to a point with it where I feel happy to look at it. It seems to be resolved.
