Drawing in monochrome felt like a radical twist from my colourful  works, but also came as a release. I got to focuse on various locations/objects to depict from the village of Partizany,Bulgaria. The main challenges I have faced were layering, shading and being less precious. As I am still expanding my series of drawings they  are becoming less of a challenge. I find using A5,A4,A3 paper helpful to keep up a tempo. The combination of ink and pen I find most successful so far.

Fun fact is that my boyfriend who had the chance to accompany me on my trip to Bulgaria recognized a location after he only took a glimpse of a drawing I was working on. This made me feel happy as evidently the village made an impression on a visitor and came out accurate in my drawings.

The challenge has been an exciting way to start the year but writing my dissertation took over my progress on the sketches. I got more comfortable each day and regret not finishing the challenge, but I will make sure to try next year. The sunflower seed is my favorite one, very quick and simple and out of my colourful comfort zone.
