Last Friday and yesterday I spend time with Jonathan Larkin-Hall, sculptor and furniture maker who is an expert in mould making. He spent 15 years working with Anthony Gormley on making moulds for casting. So I have to say, a better teacher I could not get? On Friday we applied a layer of clingfilm over the figures to stop the 14mm thick clay skin we applied over the front of the figures. We then mixed and applied a plaster cast which will be the hard outer shell of our rubber mould. Yesterday we repeated the process on the back of the figures. I ordered the rubber silicone for the inner mould which I have to say is very expensive. In total to date this project is running at £650 without the metal? I can see why few artists go into casing? Gulp…
