Sporting League: Game 37

Sporting Radio: Pundit A: “Well my friend, we’re on the cusp of finding out who are going to be crowned champions this season…would you put a few sportingos on Novia now?”

Pundit Y: “It’s never over till the boat puts down the anchor…I think three nil hammering of Indentine won’t do them any harm as they go into the last game.”

Pundit A: “How about Indentine then? That defeat means that they’re the first confirmed relegation candidate.”

Pundit Y: “Yeah, it’s always a sad day when a long standing team falls out of the league. I’m sure they’ll be back for re-election in the next couple of years, I mean look what a break did to revitalize the Universo Collunteen cause?”

Pundit A: “What d’ya think is going to happen to Bayerns?”

Pundit Y: “Well, I can see them keeping their cool in the last match. I don’t think Red Star were at the races today in all fairness, which let the Bayerns nick a goal through a set piece at the death.”

Sporting League: Game 36

Novia kept up the pressure after an away win against PacificaUniverso cemented their successful return to the league by beating closest rivals Delta to all but take eighth position…Bayerns made a swift recovery against doomed Lunderbach with a three goals to nil home win…Athletico showed former Colbreck league greats Yop Lane how it’s done with a four goals to two away win…The spoils were shared in the industrial derby between relegation fodder Indentine and Zindustrious with a draw. Indentine boss: “Feel a bit aggrieved to be honest. It’s like Zindustrious came along and replicated our model and basically stole their way into the league. Where did our sponsors of twenty years go to? Where did our youth team go? I think our ex chair has a lot to answer for. We were a team on the up a few seasons back. Luckily for us, there are always swings and roundabouts. We’ve really gotta knuckle down if we’re staying in the league over the last two games.”

Sporting League: Game 35

Defending champions Novia knocked Bayerns off their perch in what could prove to be the defining moment of the season.

Sporting Radio: Pundit A: “I’m not sure if the Bayerns gaffer is one for omens but they have never won the league after losing in the last five matches of the season.”

Pundit B: “I don’t think that sort of stuff will bother him – more a thing for us anoraks methinks!”

Pundit A: “Well, I think the Bayerns were well and truly outplayed there today…Novia showed us why they’re the champions…it was a good advert for Sporting League football.”

Indentine were pushed to the brink and now need nothing short of a miracle if they’re going to keep themselves in the league as they went down by two goals to one against fellow strugglers Dons. Dons trainer: ‘Come on Dons! That was gritty stuff we showed out there. The Tines meant business today, but we were too tough for ’em. Go ooon Dons…’

Athletico held onto their outside chance of glory to an in form Green Tree with a two goals to one triumph.

Red Star moved closer to the top four after beating a tricky Universe Collunteen by three goals to two.

Sporting League: Game 34

Novia came back from a goal down against Colne to run out as victors by three goals to one… Novia boss: ‘I was told that my no2 defender might actually have a minor groin strain – something we could do without at such a crucial stage in the season. I’m the gaffer and will have to make a call about the fitness levels of the player prior to the next match.’ The Yop Lane run continued as the Yoppites beat Chamber Athlete at home by two goals to nil. Red Star kept up the fight for a financial top five bonus with a three goals to two win over Delta.

Sporting Radio:

Pundit X: ‘Don’t you go thinking the title race is a done deal, though…anything less than a Bayerns win will be welcomed by Novia, who are relying on the legends stumbling in the home straight – and Zindustrious are in no mood to be lambs to the slaughter at the Bayerns Metropolitan stadium.’
